Dresden Stollen Festival

Procession

A special attraction of the Dresden Stollen Festival is the procession through Dresden`s baroque Altstadt (Old Town). The bakers and pastry-chefs of the Stollenschutzverband („Trade Protection Society Dresden Stollen“) represent their trade and celebrate the Dresden Stollen in a colorful convoy. Passing the fantastic scenery of Saxony’s capital, coaches and wagons move through the city carrying the Giant Stollen, the Grand Stollen Knife, the Stollen Maiden, prominent figures and historic characters. Hundreds of bakers and pastry-chefs, representatives of different trade guilds, actors and actresses and many more escort the Stollen convoy on its way from the Schlossplatz to the Striezelmarkt.

Each successive year, more and more trade guilds, associations or crafts enterprises participate in the procession with their own wagon and re-enact historic scenes of their trade. Therefore, the Stollen Festival gradually becomes also a show of traditional Saxon handicraft.
